Veitchia joannis, Joannis Palm

Veitchia joannis, common name Joannis Palm, grows on a solitary trunk to 40 - 60 feet and is best suited for zones 10B - 11 where it can be distinguished from similar palms by its habit of the 6 to 10 ft. fronds drooping a bit as they age. It bears highly ornamental red fruit, the seeds of which germinate in one or two months. It can be temperamental when young, but less so as it ages. Moderate to fast growing, moderately salt and drought tolerant. Minimum temperature requirement is 30 F, requires full to moderate sun. It has no major pests. Originally from Fiji
